The new wave of web applications

I heard about this new web application, Writely, which is billed as a web-based word processor, and I thought I'd check it out. It's a neat concept, but so far it's basically a wiki with a fancy html editor (like FCKeditor), some permissions for letting others share your documents, and the ability to export to Word.

Having spent a fair amount time dealing with importing and exporting Word and Excel files with web applications, I just had to see how well it worked, so I performed a simple test. I created a new document, added a right-aligned paragraph, then a left-aligned paragraph, then exported the document to Word. Unfortunately, the right-aligned paragraph came out left-aligned. It's good to know there are others out there having the same kind of fun with these formats that I do. :)
